Scandinavian Film Festival 2018
July 19 - August 5
The Scandinavian Film Festival is an eternally popular festival that will be returning to Australia this July and August, exhibiting films that otherwise wouldn’t be shown in Australian cinemas. It gives people an opportunity to reconnect with their culture – and in many cases, teaches some lessons along the way (especially when there’s historical films involved).
In 2017, Norwegian films such as The King’s Choice (set in WW2 when Germany was invading Norway) provided an insight into a heretofore somewhat shadowy understanding of what it conceivably could have been like in Norway – especially with regards the government and the Monarchy – in the early stages of the invasion. In total, Norwegian cinema-goers across Australia had the opportunity to see 5 Norwegian films; as well as films from Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Iceland.
Held in the beautifully European-styled Palace Cinemas at the Barracks near Caxton St, the Scandinavian Film festival is well worth attending and we will make sure we keep you posted with developments and updates as the event draws closer!
