Norwegian nationals have something new to brag about this year – with the introduction of Norway’s new passports. Already the front-runner in awesome world-leading biometric technology supporting the technical side of the passport, the new passports are also very beautiful.

Designed by Neue Design Studio (who won the design contest for the new passports in 2014), there are three colours of passport depending on what type of national you are – immigrants have a white passport, diplomats have turquoise and everyone else has a beautiful red. Inside are minimalist interpretations of some of the country’s most striking landscapes – but the best part is that under UV light, the pages light up to show the Aurora Borealis (a beautiful security feature if ever there was one!)

The new passports will be available from late 2018 (and for Norwegian citizens in Australia, you’ll need to visit the biometric testing machine in Canberra before finalising the renewal of your passport).

Passports of persons over 16 years old are valid for 10 years. The validity time of passports for persons under the age of 16 are 2 years for those between 0 and 5 years, 3 years for children between 5 and 10, and 5 years for young people between the ages of 10 and 16.
